Jeep Announces Major Recall of Plug-in Hybrid SUVs Due to Fire Risk
DETROIT — Jeep is initiating a recall of over 194,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs globally, citing a significant fire risk even with the ignition turned off.
In light of this situation, Jeep is advising owners to refrain from charging their vehicles and to park them outdoors, away from any structures, until repairs are conducted.
The affected models include the Wrangler 4xe from the 2020 through 2024 model years and the Grand Cherokee 4xe from 2022 through 2024, with the majority of the recalled SUVs located in North America.
Stellantis, the manufacturer of Jeep vehicles, indicated that a solution is on the horizon, and impacted customers will soon receive notifications for scheduling service. The company emphasizes that the fire risk diminishes when the battery charge is fully depleted.
The recall was prompted by a routine review of customer data, which uncovered 13 reported fires and two injuries. Stellantis estimates that approximately 5% of these SUVs may be affected.
