ECNETNews, New York, NY, Feb. 26, 2025: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has recently apprehended a Jamaican national in Massachusetts, reinforcing the agency’s dedication to ensuring public safety.
On January 25, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested 26-year-old Jahmari Taffari Westcarth in Boston following serious criminal charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a family member.
“Jahmari Taffari Westcarth is accused of committing acts of violence against a family member in Massachusetts, posing a significant threat to our community’s safety,” stated the acting field office director for ICE ERO Boston. “We are committed to safeguarding our law-abiding residents in New England by apprehending and removing individuals who endanger public safety.”
Westcarth initially entered the United States illegally near San Ysidro, California, on December 30, 2022, and was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents. Following this, he was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge for further legal proceedings.
After his recent arrest in Massachusetts, Westcarth was arraigned in Dorchester District Court on January 8, 2025. Although ICE issued an immigration detainer, the court did not honor it, leading to his release.
On January 25, ICE re-arrested Westcarth, and he is now in ICE custody, awaiting further immigration enforcement actions.
This case underscores the ongoing discussions surrounding the cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities, highlighting ICE’s continued efforts to remove individuals who pose public safety risks from U.S. communities.
