Kalsel, ECNETNews – A tragic case of alleged sexual harassment at a non-formal educational institution in Martapura, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, has unveiled concerning revelations.
The institution, which once hosted hundreds of students, has not had its operational license renewed since 2020. “In light of the recent sexual harassment case, we checked the records and found that this school has not renewed its operational license since 2020,” stated the Head of Early Childhood Education and Islamic Boarding Schools at the Banjar Ministry of Religious Affairs, Akhmad Shaufie, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Shaufie revealed that the institution involved in the sexual harassment incident is identified as a Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah (MDT). “While the permit is for MDT, they have been keeping students overnight with plans to operate as a pesantren,” he explained.
Shaufie emphasized that a representative from the school oversight committee has been assigned to gather further information regarding the current situation at the MDT. He noted, “Moving forward, we will engage with the parents of the students and the school foundation to address the incident.” Regarding sanctions, he mentioned that only the teaching staff implicated in the incident would face disciplinary actions. “We cannot revoke the school’s operational license due to the number of students enrolled; sanctions will be directed solely at the individuals involved,” he added.
Recent information indicates that the individual accused of sexual harassment was a former school leader, who has since been replaced following the incident’s disclosure. “It has been reported that he was recently succeeded by another instructor,” concluded the Head of Early Childhood Education and Islamic Boarding Schools at the Banjar Ministry of Religious Affairs.
