The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has strongly criticized former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia and ex-National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, following their remarks during a recent project commissioning in Rivers State.
Speaking at the PDP end-of-year thanksgiving event held in Ahoada East, the Minister took issue with Omehia’s questions regarding his contributions to Rivers State as FCT Minister. He clarified, “I am not a minister of Rivers State; I am the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.”
The Minister also defended his legacy, highlighting past achievements while serving as Minister of Education, including establishing a Faculty of Law at the University of Port Harcourt and enhancing the infrastructure of various educational institutions.
In response to Secondus, who labeled him an “enemy of the state,” the Minister accused him of previously opposing Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s rise to power while now acting as a supporter. He stated, “Secondus wanted his cousin, Tele Ikuru, to be governor. The records are clear; I removed Secondus as PDP chairman because of his actions.”
He also emphasized the political appointments secured for Rivers State under the current administration, asserting that no governor in the state’s history has attracted more political appointments.
Wike reflected on the importance of continuity in governance, noting that he had initiated key projects, including the Ring Road, during his tenure. “I awarded and paid for 50% of the projects being commissioned today. The essence was to ensure continuity,” he remarked, expressing disappointment over some projects being canceled.
The event’s host, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudum Nwuche, praised the Minister for his substantive contributions to both Rivers State and Abuja, asserting that the capital is undergoing transformation under his leadership.
