The Metropolitan Police Bureau has summoned university lecturers for questioning regarding a controversial training program that charges 38,000 baht for Chinese nationals aspiring to become volunteer police.
This action follows online allegations suggesting that the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Metropolitan Police Division 3, and a privately operated university were behind the program and were facilitating the issuance of ID cards featuring the police logo.
In a recent statement, a member of the People’s Party questioned the rationale behind the Royal Thai Police training Chinese nationals as police volunteers and imposing the 38,000 baht fee.
“Should these allegations be substantiated, disciplinary and criminal actions will be pursued against all involved parties, including police personnel,” stated the Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner.
The commissioner confirmed the training took place at a university facility from December 25-27, 2024, with participants receiving a two-year certificate, police gear, and official ID badges upon completion.
The program reportedly utilized the CIB’s branding, which the CIB has since denied.
The Metropolitan Police Division 3 executives have been instructed to investigate this matter further.
“We have convened university lecturers to gather information regarding the program, including the justification for the 38,000-baht fee and a comprehensive list of participants to verify payment details and recruitment processes,” the commissioner explained.
If any connections between involved police officers and the training program organizers emerge, appropriate criminal and disciplinary measures will be enforced.
“Our investigations will ascertain whether the officers gained any financial advantage from their involvement,” he concluded.
The president of the university has indicated that the institution is actively participating in the investigation to clarify the situation.
