Students at Seshadri Rao Gudlavalleru Engineering College (GEC) organized a significant protest in front of the college after allegations emerged that hidden cameras were discovered in the girls’ hostel restrooms.
According to reports, a camera was spotted in a toilet, prompting an immediate outcry among the student body. As news of the incident spread throughout the campus, thousands of students participated in a dharna on Thursday night.
In protest, students boycotted classes and maintained their demonstrations until Friday afternoon, demanding accountability and action against those responsible. Efforts by the college management to quell the unrest were unsuccessful.
Parents of the students arrived at the campus, insisting on a comprehensive investigation into the disturbing incident involving the hidden cameras in the girls’ hostel.
In a statement, the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Eluru Range confirmed that a case had been filed by Gudlavalleru police, who initiated searches within the college premises.
“We have instructed the police to conduct thorough searches in the college hostel and other critical areas using bomb detection teams,” the DIG noted.
Krishna district Superintendent of Police stated that authorities were scrutinizing the mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices of potential suspects.
“As of noon, no spy cameras have been retrieved from the Gudlavalleru Engineering College premises, and our investigation continues,” the Superintendent reported after visiting the site.
Police have detained several senior students identified as suspects for further questioning.
