Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (Tira) has made a significant contribution of Sh321 million to support the 61st Anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution. This donation was presented to the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, with celebrations scheduled to take place on January 12, 2025, at Gombani Stadium in Pemba.
In receiving the funds, Mr. Abdulla expressed his deep appreciation for the insurance sector’s support, emphasizing the importance of the donation and the commitment to using the funds effectively. He encouraged continued collaboration between the sector and the government, highlighting the importance of creating a favorable environment for insurance providers.
“We urge insurance companies to capitalize on the existing business opportunities linked to ongoing projects in Zanzibar. My office stands ready to assist wherever necessary,” stated Mr. Abdulla.
Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, Khadija Said, who led the presentation of the cheque, reiterated the insurance sector’s dedication to working with the government. She underscored the sector’s commitment to supporting crucial development initiatives and disaster preparedness.
Wilson Mnzava, representing the Association of Tanzania Insurers (ATI) and CEO of CRDB Insurance Company (CIC), praised the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar for its engagement of insurance firms in the anniversary events.
“This is just the start. We commit to ongoing participation each year to ensure that the insurance sector plays a vital role in the success of these celebrations,” Mr. Mnzava remarked. He further urged the Zanzibar government to enhance opportunities for local insurance companies to protect significant development efforts launched by both the government and private sector investors.
