Indonesia’s National Post Office has unveiled the country’s inaugural Non-Fungible Token (NFT) postage stamp featuring the iconic Cenderawasih bird of paradise.
On September 27, the Indonesian National Post Office, known as Pos Indonesia, introduced its first NFT postage stamp in celebration of the 79th anniversary of Indonesian Post in Bandung. This innovative project collaborates with the Ministry of Communications and Information.
This initiative marks a significant milestone as Indonesia becomes a pioneer in employing blockchain technology in stamp production, catering to philately enthusiasts globally seeking to enhance their digital collections.
Valued at approximately $9.90, the stamp showcases the stunning Cenderawasih bird, a species renowned for its vibrant multi-colored feathers, native to Indonesia’s Papua island.
According to official sources, the NFT stamps will be released in a limited quantity presented in booklet form.
Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi, Director of Pos Indonesia, emphasized that this NFT stamp is designed as a collector’s item rather than a conventional stamp for mailing. He expressed hope that this initiative would inspire younger generations to embrace stamp collecting once again.
“We aim to engage digital natives in stamp collecting through this NFT format,” Faizal stated at the launch event.
Additionally, the stamp will also be available in a physical format, allowing collectors to enjoy both a tangible and digital version. Interested buyers can acquire the NFT stamp via the Indonesian Post’s website by scanning a QR code that directs them to an order form.
With this launch, Indonesia joins Thailand and Malaysia as the third Southeast Asian nation to introduce NFT stamps, highlighting the growing interest in digital collectibles in the region.
