Tango Gameworks has officially rebranded itself as Tango Gameworks Inc., marking a significant new chapter for the studio known for the popular rhythm-action game, Hi-Fi Rush. This transition comes as the studio becomes a part of Krafton Inc., the publisher behind the globally recognized PUBG franchise.
Initially established under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella, Tango faced challenges in the past year, prompting concerns about its survival. The studio announced its reinvention on social media, expressing enthusiasm for its new direction and a commitment to creating games that bring joy to players worldwide. This represents the first communication from Tango since its announcement of closure in May 2024, a result of a broader restructuring by Microsoft impacting multiple studios, including Arkane Austin.
The acquisition by Krafton in August has infused new life into Tango, allowing them to retain rights to Hi-Fi Rush. Founded in 2010, Tango Gameworks is best known for its survival-horror series The Evil Within, although those rights remain with Microsoft. While development on Hi-Fi Rush 2 had begun prior to the studio’s previous closure, there is no official confirmation regarding the sequel at this time. Krafton recognizes that the project may not be financially lucrative but is willing to support Tango’s creative ambitions.
Krafton CEO Changhan Kim emphasized the importance of fostering an environment where Tango can continue to innovate and develop unique gaming experiences. Hi-Fi Rush’s unexpected release in early 2023 has left fans eager for what the newly revitalized studio might create next.
