Star Citizen Faces Employee Crunch Ahead of CitizenCon
Star Citizen, still in early access, has garnered a dedicated fanbase and hosts an annual convention called CitizenCon. However, recent reports indicate that the game’s developer, Cloud Imperium Games, is requiring employees to work seven days a week in the lead-up to the event.
Internal communications revealed that staff are mandated to work daily, including the two weekends before CitizenCon. While remote work is permitted on the Sunday prior to the event, the company has expressed a preference for employees to be present in the office.
The intense work period aims to complete Star Citizen patch 3.24.2 and prepare the Squadron 42 demo showcase for Chapter 1. Employees were informed they could earn up to 12 hours of time off each week, contingent on remaining with the company until the release of Squadron 42. Those who leave before that time will forfeit their accumulated time off.
CitizenCon is set to occur in Manchester, England, on October 19-20. Following the event, employees have been offered Monday, October 21, as a day off. Meanwhile, the long-awaited full release of Star Citizen remains uncertain, as the game has been in development for over 12 years.
