In February 2022, a new gaming studio, Rebel Wolves, was founded by veteran developers, including the director of The Witcher 3, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. The studio recently unveiled the opening moments of its debut title, The Blood of Dawnwalker, highlighting the gripping narrative that sets the stage for a vampire-controlled valley in medieval Europe.
The trailer introduces the protagonist, Coen, who is determined to rescue his sister Lunka from the clutches of human authorities intent on executing her due to a devastating plague. Their fate changes when Brencis and his vampires arrive, swiftly dispatching the guards and offering to heal Lunka. Brencis informs Coen of the vampires’ plan to take control of the valley.
At the game’s onset, Coen and his fellow villagers have been living under vampire rule for two years. As the titular Dawnwalker, Coen possesses a unique condition that allows him to remain human during the day while transforming into a formidable vampire at night.
Developers emphasize the importance of narrative freedom in The Blood of Dawnwalker, though players face urgency as Coen has only 30 days and nights to liberate his family from Brencis’ dungeons. The game allows players to form alliances with those eager to overthrow the vampires, but motivations may vary among potential allies.
Moreover, the game explores the complex relationships between vampires and their human supporters, explaining that while Brencis has provided safety and healing, the humans remain subjugated, no longer under human feudal lords but instead serving their vampire rulers.
Currently, The Blood of Dawnwalker does not have a designated release date, but fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal scheduled for this summer.
