The Federal Government has announced a significant increase in allowances for public service officers, reflecting a commitment to enhance employee welfare.
This review encompasses several key allowances, including the Duty Tour Allowance, transport allowances, uniform allowances, and overtime allowances.
The decision was taken during the 46th meeting of the National Council on Establishment (NCE), under the leadership of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The NCE, which acts as the principal policy-making body for public service administration, includes Heads of Service from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Prior to the meeting, a two-day technical session was held, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office. This session featured participation from permanent secretaries and directors of establishments from across the nation, with the Director of Organisation Design and Development serving as secretary.
During the council meeting, a total of 32 memoranda were reviewed. Out of these, six proposals were approved, eight were deferred, six were rejected, seven were sent to the Standing Committee for further review, one was acknowledged, and three were earmarked for re-presentation.
Among the key outcomes of the meeting was the approved upward review of allowances for public service officers. The report highlighted plans for a comprehensive reassessment of the rates of allowances, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing public service conditions.
