The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) faced criticism over the recent formation of its caretaker committee for the Ekiti State chapter. On Friday, the NWC announced the 19-member committee, led by Dare Adeleke, following the conclusion of the previous State Working Committee’s tenure.
In a subsequent statement issued from Ado Ekiti, Lere Olayinka, media aide to former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, labeled the committee’s formation as an exercise of the NWC’s discretion, emphasizing that it does not prevent others from exercising their own discretion in the party.
Olayinka remarked, “While the NWC has chosen its path, we too, as stakeholders in the party, will assert our rights at the appropriate time.” He highlighted that discretion can operate across short, medium, and long-term timelines, promising that supporters of Fayose within the PDP would make their choices known in due course.
He also acknowledged the NWC’s authority in making its decision, while hinting at possible future repercussions for the current leadership when Fayose’s supporters decide to exercise their own discretion. “We welcome their decision, but it is important for them to understand that our actions will unfold at the right time,” he concluded.
