After the recent cast reveal for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, speculation about characters not included in the lineup is swirling, notably regarding Vincent D’Onofrio‘s portrayal of Kingpin. The veteran actor has shared a disappointing update, indicating that a return for Wilson Fisk in upcoming MCU films like Avengers 5 or Spider-Man 4 is highly unlikely.
Vincent D’Onofrio Discusses Kingpin’s Absence in Avengers: Doomsday
During a recent podcast appearance, D’Onofrio discussed the challenges of bringing Kingpin into the fold for projects like Avengers: Doomsday or Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He emphasized that legal complexities surrounding the character complicate any potential appearances.
“The situation is not encouraging; it’s a complex issue for Marvel to utilize my character due to ownership limitations,” D’Onofrio explained. He further clarified that his interpretation of Wilson Fisk is currently limited to television series, preventing any crossover into movie formats. “At this moment, I’m only permitted for television productions, so a standalone Fisk movie isn’t feasible either,” he added.
D’Onofrio continued, “Everything is entangled in rights issues. I’m uncertain when, or if, this situation might change.” While fans continue to express hope for his inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday or Spider-Man 4, D’Onofrio is focusing on reprising his role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which has been approved but lacks an official release date.
