The Crown Prosecution Service is currently evaluating a case involving a Premier League footballer who was arrested on suspicion of rape. The player, in his 30s, faces allegations of sexual offenses that reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2023. The Metropolitan Police have submitted their findings to the CPS, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The footballer has denied the allegations. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated that investigations are underway following multiple reports of alleged sexual offenses during the specified period. The full case file has been handed over to the CPS, and detectives are collaborating closely with prosecutors to ensure a thorough review.
Support continues for those who have come forward, as the police maintain their commitment to providing assistance. The unnamed footballer was first arrested in July 2022 following a rape allegation made by a woman in her 20s. While in custody, he faced additional allegations regarding incidents involving another woman, which reportedly occurred in April and June 2021.
The Metropolitan Police determined that no further action would be pursued in relation to the alleged June 2021 incident due to applicable legislation not being in effect at that time. Additionally, in February 2023, the player was interrogated under caution concerning an alleged sexual offense believed to have taken place in Barnet, North London, in February 2022. This claim surfaced in July 2022.
Further interviews with the Premier League footballer took place under caution in November 2024. The CPS is now tasked with deciding on the next steps based on the evidence presented by the Metropolitan Police, and it remains unclear when this decision will be announced.
