Chris Eubank Jr asserts he is “far too elite” to be defeated by Conor Benn as anticipation builds for a potential “one of a kind” clash between the British boxing rivals. Eubank and Benn had a fight scheduled for October 2022, which was ultimately canceled after Benn tested positive for the banned substance clomifene.
Currently under provisional suspension, Benn has expressed confidence that he will eventually be allowed to return to the boxing ring.
Eubank Jr, whose father famously battled Benn’s father, Nigel, in memorable 1990s matches, believes that Benn will regain his boxing license before they have their own bout. Eager to “punish” Benn for the cancellation aftermath, Eubank is confident that this contest will stand out in boxing history, fueled by the personal rivalry and the legendary status of their fathers.
After an impressive return from a 13-month hiatus, Eubank Jr knocked out Kamil Szeremeta in seven rounds on October 12. He remarked that he wants to “punish [Benn] so badly that he doesn’t want to box again” after stepping into the ring with him.
“The kid is full of confidence,” Eubank stated. “But he has never fought an elite-level technician who knows how to inflict damage. We won’t truly know how tough Conor Benn is until he faces someone like me who can really challenge him.”
He further stated, “What I bring to the table is far superior in terms of experience, skill, power, and speed. I believe everything will be overwhelming for him, and it’s going to be a wake-up call.”
Eubank is also adamant about the necessity of the bout being at middleweight, stating, “He has no leeway, no power. There is no compromise.”
As talks of their clash continue, Eubank insists that the fight, described as a historic event for British boxing, is vastly bigger now than before. “Now the fight is three times bigger, the pay is quadruple, and the terms are all on my side,” he explained.
“This fight will be unique—there has never been a similar matchup in boxing,” Eubank declared, emphasizing the importance of their legacies and the emotional stakes intertwined with their father’s histories.
With a possible venue of Wembley or a Saudi arena, Eubank envisions an electrifying encounter that will resonate deeply within the sport, asserting, “This is not pretend; it’s real.”
As excitement builds, Eubank Jr’s next steps will be closely monitored as he prepares for what promises to be one of the most significant matches in boxing history.
