The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated the charge framing process against Sujay Krishna Bhadra in connection with the West Bengal primary school teachers’ recruitment scam, under Section 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). This announcement came on January 6, 2024, during a virtual court appearance.
Bhadra, also known as Kalighater Kaku, received notification of the charges while hospitalized. He was presented virtually in Kolkata’s Bankshall court before Judge Subhendu Saha at 2 p.m. The court also framed charges against five additional accused: Partha Chatterjee, Manik Bhattacharya, Santanu Bandhopadhyay, Santu Gangopadhyay, and Ayal Sil.
According to ED officials, all defendants in this case are alleged to have taken money from job candidates. The court indicated that there is substantial evidence against Bhadra and the other accused to proceed with framing the charges.
The process faced a delay due to Bhadra’s health issues; on December 30, he reportedly fell ill and lost consciousness, necessitating his transfer to a medical facility where he was placed on a ventilator before later being moved to a private hospital.
