A six-member Central government team is actively assessing the extensive damage and losses caused by recent floods in Tripura, which have tragically claimed the lives of 32 individuals and displaced approximately 1.5 lakh residents, prompting the establishment of relief camps. The assessment team, divided into two groups, is conducting on-site evaluations across various flood-affected regions in the state.
The team, led by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has engaged in discussions with officials from state government departments tasked with relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.
In light of the severe impact, the Tripura government has officially designated the entire state as a “Natural Calamity Affected Area.” This decision follows a meeting of the State Executive Committee of the Tripura Disaster Management Authority, highlighting the loss of life and significant damage to both public and private property.
Preliminary estimates from the Tripura government indicate losses of around ₹15,000 crore resulting from the floods. Currently, around 400 relief camps are in operation, accommodating over 70,000 evacuees throughout the state.
As part of the response, the Centre has allocated ₹40 crore in interim relief. Additionally, several state governments have extended financial assistance to support the flood-affected communities in Tripura.
