A contentious two-day censure debate targeting Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is expected to trigger legal challenges and potential political shifts, as stated by the secretary-general of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP).
Paiboon Nititawan, the PPRP secretary-general, indicated that this no-confidence discussion will delve into various legal matters, including inquiries into the prime minister’s dealings with the Alpine golf course, real estate ownership in Pathum Thani, and allegations of external influence on political decisions.
“This censure debate will pave the way for legal ramifications that could escalate. We anticipate potential petitions to the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Constitutional Court,” Mr. Paiboon noted.
He emphasized that proceedings at the Constitutional Court, linked to the prime minister, might result in significant political repercussions.
The PPRP has underscored that the Election Commission (EC) is currently probing alleged external pressures on the prime minister and various political entities.
“The outcomes of the censure debate will amplify these issues. If the EC considers this matter seriously enough to push for a petition to the Constitutional Court, the unfolding events will be noteworthy,” Mr. Paiboon stated.
During the debate, PPRP leader Gen Prawit Wongsuwon is expected to deliver a ten-minute overview, followed by detailed discussions from PPRP MPs.
Mr. Paiboon also suggested that developments may prompt a consideration for the dissolution of the House.
