On January 4, President Joe Biden celebrated 19 outstanding individuals by awarding them the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor available to American civilians. Among the honorees were notable figures such as U2 frontman Bono, acclaimed actor Denzel Washington, environmentalist Jane Goodall, and sports legend Lionel Messi.
“Thank you for all you’ve done to help this country. You all literally embody the nation’s creed,” Biden stated during the ceremony. He highlighted the honorees’ contributions, saying, “Your innovation inspires, bringing healing and joy to many lives that otherwise wouldn’t be touched. You answered the call to serve and led others to do the same.”
The Presidential Medal of Freedom recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to national security, world peace, or cultural advancements. Notable past recipients include legendary musicians Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder, among many others.
