Bluesky is set to introduce video functionality to its platform.
The decentralized social media platform announced this upcoming feature on Friday. The addition of video was initially hinted at in May, alongside plans for direct messaging.
While specific details on the launch date and format remain unclear, the company suggested that users can expect “more details soon.” In previous communications, Bluesky indicated that the first version of the video integration would support 90-second clips that can be shared within user posts.
In addition to video updates, Bluesky recently unveiled new “anti-toxicity” features. These include the ability to detach quote posts, hide replies, and filter notifications to receive updates exclusively from followed accounts.
Earlier this year, Bluesky implemented a “stackable approach” for content moderation, allowing users to create their own independent moderation systems. This innovative approach is aimed at enhancing user experience and promoting a healthier online environment.
As of its latest report, Bluesky boasts 5.8 million users, providing a fresh alternative for individuals seeking options beyond competitor platforms. Initially invite-only, it garnered 3 million sign-ups prior to its full release in February. In contrast, a major competitor recently announced surpassing the 200 million user milestone.
