Former Union Minister Bhagwat Karad, on July 29, firmly stated that Marathas should not receive quota benefits under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) classification. Karad, who serves as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party maintains a clear position against diminishing OBC quotas.

“The 10% reservation allocated to Marathas by the Maharashtra government is likely to face legal challenges. As an OBC member, I strongly oppose the extension of OBC benefits to the Maratha community,” he stated during a press briefing.
Leading the movement for Maratha reservations under the OBC category, activist Manoj Jarange has been advocating for the issuance of Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community, a move that has faced significant opposition from OBC organizations.
