President Biden is set to honor 19 distinguished individuals with the prestigious Medal of Freedom, recognizing their significant contributions to civil rights, politics, and culture. Among the honorees are iconic figures such as the late civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and prominent Democratic fundraiser George Soros.
The list of recipients also features celebrated personalities from the entertainment and sports arenas, including actors Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington, as well as international soccer star Lionel Messi and NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, known for leading the Los Angeles Lakers to five championship titles.
In a statement from the White House, it was emphasized, “These nineteen Americans are great leaders who have made America a better place. They are recognized for their extraordinary contributions to both the nation and the world.”
Additionally, Biden will posthumously award the Medal of Freedom to notable figures such as former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and former Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter. He also honors George W. Romney, former chairman of American Motors Corp. and Michigan governor, who is the father of Utah Senator Mitt Romney.

- Ralph Lauren – influential fashion designer with a significant impact on culture and philanthropy.
- William Sanford Nye – inspirational educator recognized as “Bill Nye the Science Guy.”
- David M. Rubenstein – co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group, a leading global investment firm.
- George Stevens, Jr. – acclaimed writer and director, founder of the American Film Institute and co-creator of the Kennedy Center Honors.
