ATLANTA — A downtown Atlanta hotel was evacuated Friday due to a suspected carbon monoxide leak, leading to the hospitalization of five individuals for evaluation, according to local authorities.
Emergency fire crews promptly responded to the Residence Inn on Peachtree Street shortly after 9 a.m.
Three adults and two children were transported to local hospitals for monitoring of potential carbon monoxide exposure, as stated by Atlanta Fire Rescue officials.
A gas line has since been shut off, with the fire department reporting that “the situation is stable” in their latest update.
The hotel is housed in the historic Rhodes-Haverty building, which was once Atlanta’s tallest at 21 stories, upon its completion in 1929.
