A recent viral video featuring Fatai Odunsi, who claims to be the father of renowned artist Asake, has ignited a firestorm of discussion on social media since early March 14. In the video, Odunsi asserts he has not seen Asake since 2022 when his health began to decline due to a stroke. He reached out to the public for financial assistance, expressing disappointment in his son’s lack of support.
“I am Asake’s father. I gave birth to Ahmed, the singer. Since I had a stroke, I haven’t seen him. The last time I saw him was March 29, 2022. He doesn’t pick my calls when I reach out to him. Please, I only need your help,” stated Odunsi.
In a video response, Asake addressed the situation through his music, singing in Yoruba. The song’s lyrics emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself amid external pressures. He remarked, “You can’t please the world. Whatever you do, do it for God and always remember the day you’ll meet your God. Even my father wants to cajole me, but I stand firm, and they can’t extinguish my light.”
Adding to the controversy, an anonymous showbiz industry insider claimed that Asake has not been properly supporting his father, referred to as “Malo.” The insider noted that Asake has a child who has been cared for by Malo since birth and that the only support Asake has provided his father consists of a Lexus car and an apartment, with an expiring lease in December 2025.
Asake’s former manager criticized the singer for allegedly neglecting his father, posting, “Operation GoFundMe for your favorite’s Papa. Please help us find that old man; his seed won’t listen. A heart of a man reveals all you need to know. Let’s get him the help he needs. These children have the audacity.”
The backlash continued as the former manager urged Asake to take responsibility, stating, “God will reveal their true nature. If you don’t assist your father, I will handle your responsibilities for you.”
The unfolding family dispute has prompted a wave of commentary, with many Nigerians expressing their opinions about the situation. One individual shared memories of teaching Asake during his childhood, reflecting on his father’s dedication. “Malo took great care of him as a single parent. I can’t believe he could neglect his father,” they lamented.
Another echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Malo’s unwavering commitment as a father. “I can’t believe Ahmed could neglect his father in this state. I pray the Almighty restores his health,” they stated.
The growing discourse surrounding this family conflict underscores the complexities of fame and familial responsibility, sparking widespread conversation among fans and observers alike.
