Apple has launched its most powerful Mac to date, the all-new Mac Studio, which features cutting-edge M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips. This latest desktop powerhouse boasts Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, offers up to 512GB of unified memory, and provides an impressive storage capacity of up to 16TB SSD, all within a sleek and compact design. Pre-orders for the new Mac Studio are open now, with availability starting on March 12.
The Mac Studio is touted as a groundbreaking solution for professionals across various industries, including video editing, software development, and photography. With enhanced performance capabilities, the M4 Max chip offers remarkable single-threaded CPU performance, complemented by an up to 16-core CPU, a 40-core GPU, and an advanced Neural Engine that significantly outperforms its predecessor.
According to Apple, the M4 Max variant is capable of delivering speeds up to 3.5 times faster than the previous generation Mac Studio equipped with M1 Max and 6.1 times faster than the most powerful Intel-based 27-inch iMac. The device supports up to 128GB of unified memory and integrates a powerful Media Engine with two ProRes accelerators for exceptional video processing.
In addition to the M4 Max, the Mac Studio also features the M3 Ultra variant, which offers even higher performance metrics. This version includes an up to 32-core CPU and an 80-core GPU, providing nearly twice the performance of the M4 Max for demanding tasks. Users can expect robust support with up to 512GB of unified memory and a maximum of 16TB SSD storage.
With the introduction of Thunderbolt 5, the Mac Studio achieves transfer speeds of up to 120 Gb/s, representing a threefold increase over its predecessors. This upgrade enhances the device’s capabilities for external storage, connectivity for expansion chassis, and compatibility with professional hub solutions.
Furthermore, the new Mac Studio is engineered to handle complex artificial intelligence tasks, enabling users to run large language models directly from memory. Apple Intelligence, the built-in AI assistant, provides advanced features like live transcription and writing support while ensuring user privacy through on-device processing for most functions.
Apple’s commitment to sustainability is highlighted, as the new Mac Studio features over 30 percent recycled content, including fully recycled aluminum in the enclosure and rare earth elements in its components. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its supply chain by 2030.
The Mac Studio is now available for pre-order with a base model starting at $1,999, while educational discounts bring the price down to $1,799. Customers can also configure their Mac Studio with additional memory and storage options. Personalized setup assistance is offered for those who purchase directly from Apple, along with the option for AppleCare+ for extended support and coverage.
