ECNETNews reports that Apple is continuously rolling out new AI features for iPhone users, but this advancement comes with increased storage demands.
In recent months, the internal storage required to install Apple Intelligence on iPhones, iPads, and Macs has surged nearly 100%, now necessitating 7GB of space, up from the initial requirement. This information was confirmed through an official notice on Apple’s website.
Initially, the launch of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 required only 4GB of storage. The storage needs ballooned with the subsequent iOS 18.2 update, which introduced additional features like Genmoji. As Apple plans to expand its AI offerings, users should anticipate further increases in storage requirements. The earliest model capable of running Apple Intelligence is the iPhone 15 Pro, which comes equipped with 128GB of internal storage.
Notably, Apple has designed the installation process so that users cannot selectively install features; they must accept all or none of the AI enhancements.
While many users may not find the storage increase problematic, as not everyone maximizes their device’s storage with photos or music downloads, those who do might reconsider whether the benefits of Apple Intelligence are worth the trade-off.
