ECNETNews has learned that Andy Muschietti envisions a trilogy of seasons for the highly anticipated HBO series, It: Welcome to Derry.
This upcoming series draws inspiration from Stephen King’s classic novel, originally released in 1986. Muschietti, known for his direction of the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019), is collaborating with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs on this project.
During a recent interview, Muschietti shared his plans for three seasons of It: Welcome to Derry.
Insights on It: Welcome to Derry
Muschietti described the series as focusing on the interludes from the book, which reflect Mike Hanlon’s extensive research over 27 years. He emphasized a narrative rooted in catastrophic historical events triggered by the re-emergence of the sinister Pennywise.
“The series explores various catastrophic incidents from the past such as the Black Spot fire, the Bradley Gang massacre of the ‘30s, and the Kitchener Ironworks explosion,” he explained. “Each time Pennywise awakens, it marks the beginning of another cycle of chaos.”
While no official green light has been given for a second season yet, Muschietti indicated that each future season would focus on these pivotal events. “The story is told in reverse chronology: the first season unfolds in 1962, the second in 1935, and the third in 1908,” he revealed.
Additionally, Muschietti noted Warner Bros. expressed satisfaction with the inaugural season, showing keen interest in advancing to the second season promptly.
It: Welcome to Derry is slated to premiere on HBO and Max in 2025, although a specific release date remains unconfirmed.
