A key governorship aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Dr. Paul Chukwuma, has officially resigned from the party just one day before the scheduled governorship primary on Saturday.
Chukwuma was among seven candidates who had purchased the APC’s N40 million nomination form and were screened for the primaries. Other candidates in the race include Chukuma Umeoji, Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Johnbosco Onunkwo, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu.
In his resignation letter, dated April 3 and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Umueri Ward 2, Anambra East Local Government Area, Chukwuma expressed his intent to step down in favor of fostering a broader political movement within the state.
The letter stated, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress. My decision reflects my dedication to connecting Anambra State with national politics by establishing an inclusive political movement while supporting President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. I appreciate your leadership over the years and assure you of my ongoing commitment to our shared progressive ideals as I focus on realizing a safe and prosperous Anambra.”
Chukwuma’s departure from the APC marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Anambra State as the governorship primaries approach.
