Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has emphasized that local governments in the state must demonstrate accountability in executing projects that enhance the socioeconomic development of grassroots communities.
During the recent disbursement of N50 million as part of the Eket ARISE Empowerment Initiative and small business grants, aimed at uplifting 500 beneficiaries, Eno highlighted the importance of impactful local governance. The event was hosted by the Eket Local Government.
In addition, the governor inaugurated a state-of-the-art Eket City Hall, which boasts a capacity of 5,000, and laid the foundation for the modern Eket Legislative Complex. Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong, Eno celebrated these developments as integral to the ARISE Agenda of his administration.
“This is a landmark project for Eket. It’s not only a hall for the senatorial district but also a facility that can serve the entire state,” Archibong noted.
Archibong continued, “This event is historic, marking the disbursement of N50 million, the groundbreaking of the legislative chamber, and the commissioning of this impressive structure as milestones in the region’s history. This reflects the ARISE Agenda actively being implemented at the local government level. The governor is eager to see numerous life-changing projects throughout every local government area in the state.”
Eket Local Government Chairman, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey, affirmed that the new projects align with Eno’s transformative ARISE Agenda.
“This edifice represents more than just a building; it stands as a testament to unity and progress. With facilities for 5,000 seats, offices, and a mini-conference hall, it will be a prime location for major events and gatherings, driving our internally generated revenue while creating job opportunities,” Tommey stated.
He further added, “The Eket ARISE Empowerment Initiative’s N50 million grant to 500 entrepreneurs exemplifies our commitment to supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which are vital to our local economy, as prioritized by Governor Umo Eno.”
