In a decisive move to tackle alarming road accident rates, Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal announced plans for a comprehensive action strategy on December 29, 2024. This initiative aims to drastically reduce the number of accidents in the Vizianagaram district, highlighted by an alarming rise in fatalities over the past three weeks.
Recent statistics reveal that ten individuals tragically lost their lives near Polipalli in the Bhogapuram mandal, prompting officials to investigate the primary causes, notably excessive speed and unskilled driving. Policymakers are particularly focused on the Srikakulam-Visakhapatnam national highway, a high-risk area for motorists.
During a meeting with senior officials from Bhogapuram and surrounding locales, Mr. Jindal discussed implementing targeted measures, including the installation of additional signage and road safety stoppers on National Highway No-16. “We are optimistic that these initiatives will significantly curb road accidents. Conversations with the National Highway Authority of India are underway to ensure collaborative action,” he stated.
Mr. Jindal also urged all two-wheeler riders to wear helmets, underscoring that numerous fatalities result from head injuries sustained during accidents. To promote safety, awareness campaigns will be conducted across the region, emphasizing the importance of helmet use. Moreover, strict enforcement of drunken driving laws continues, with regular sobriety checkpoints aimed at safeguarding all road users.
