ABBA has become the latest musical act to demand that former President Donald J. Trump cease playing their songs at his events. Reports indicate that during a rally in St. Cloud, Minnesota, Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, featured several ABBA tracks, including “Money, Money, Money,” “The Winner Takes It All,” and “Dancing Queen.”
In an official statement, a representative for ABBA expressed concern over the unauthorized use of their music and videos at the Trump event, stating, “ABBA has recently discovered the unauthorized use of their music and videos at a Trump event through videos that appeared online. Consequently, ABBA and its representatives have swiftly requested the removal and deletion of such content. No request has been received; therefore, no permission or license has been granted.”
Throughout his presidential campaigns, Trump has faced criticism for the music he selects for his rallies. He has notably drawn ire from artists such as Neil Young, Eddy Grant, and Johnny Marr of the Smiths, among others. Recently, Celine Dion publicly condemned Trump’s use of her song “My Heart Will Go On,” while the estate of the late Isaac Hayes has threatened legal action over the song “Hold On, I’m Coming.” Furthermore, Beyoncé has reportedly cautioned Trump against using “Freedom,” and the Foo Fighters have claimed that their song “My Hero” is being used without permission at rallies.
