A bomb explosion occurred on Taiwo Street, Idi-Araba, in the Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, reportedly triggered by a scavenger. The incident resulted in the death of the scavenger and left three others injured.
Initial investigations revealed that the scavenger was attempting to dismantle military-grade grenades while searching for scrap metal. The explosion happened when he was handling one of the grenades, leading to his immediate death.
Three additional individuals, whose identities are not yet confirmed, sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident, stating, “At 13:30 hours on April 3, 2025, we received a distress call regarding a bomb explosion on Taiwo Street, Idi-Araba. Our Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was quickly dispatched to the location.”
Upon arrival, the team ensured the area was secure. Following a thorough inspection, they determined that the explosion resulted from military-grade grenades that had been mishandled. Tragically, the scavenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others received medical attention.
The area has since been secured, and crucial evidence has been collected for further analysis. The deceased’s body has been transferred to a public morgue for autopsy, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.
