Breaking News: Porridge Radio, the renowned Brighton band led by Dana Margolin, has announced their disbandment along with the release of a final EP titled The Machine Starts to Sing. This new collection features tracks recorded during the sessions for last year’s acclaimed album, Clouds in the Sky They Will Always Be There for Me, and is set to be released on February 21.
In a heartfelt statement, Margolin shared, “This is the last new music from Porridge Radio and marks the end of the band. The songs on this EP hold significant meaning for us, and we are excited for you to hear them. Being in this band has shaped our lives; we consider ourselves family. These upcoming tours will be our last. Thank you for your support.”
Porridge Radio will kick off their farewell tour next week, culminating in a final performance scheduled for May 10 in Bucharest, Romania.
Founded in 2015 in Brighton, Porridge Radio quickly garnered attention for their unique sound. The original lineup included Margolin, bassist Maddie Ryall, keyboardist Georgie Stott, and drummer Sam Yardley. Their debut album, Rice, Pasta and Other Fillers, was released in 2016, but it was the 2020 label debut Every Bad that propelled them into the international spotlight, particularly with the hit single “Sweet.” Their follow-up album, Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky, released in 2022, showcased Margolin’s evolving lyrical depth. After Ryall’s departure in 2023, the band released their poignant final album, Clouds in the Sky They Will Always Be There for Me, last October.
Porridge Radio’s musical journey has been marked by a thoughtful exploration of themes and emotions, as reflected in Margolin’s past comments on the transformative power of language in their lyrics.
