Earlier this year, it was announced that Uncharted’s Amy Hennig is developing her first title at Skydance New Media, titled Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. This highly anticipated game will center on Captain America’s encounter with Black Panther of World War II, Azzuri, who is also the grandfather of the contemporary Black Panther, T’Challa. Initial previews indicated that the storyline would unfold in occupied Europe during Nazi rule, but players can also expect to journey to Wakanda and other significant locations.
“Wakanda and Occupied Paris are both pivotal settings,” Hennig shared. “We aim to create a globe-trotting narrative… There are additional locations yet to be unveiled… At this point in history, Wakanda is cloaked from the outside world, safeguarded by their dense jungle. They follow a non-interventionist stance, but circumstances arise that draw them into the conflict, compelling them to safeguard their interests. While the world is becoming increasingly interconnected, how long can they remain hidden?”
Hennig hinted at the presence of another super soldier in Paris, although further details remain undisclosed. A new character introduced in the game is Julie, an ally within the French Resistance. Players will take control of four key characters:
– Captain America/Steve Rogers
– Black Panther/Azzuri
– Gabriel Jones
– Nanali
Additionally, Howard Stark, the father of Iron Man’s Tony Stark, will be featured in the game, voiced by Joel Johnstone. While Hennig has not yet revealed the narrative’s catalyst, excitement builds around a mystery that will be intricately woven throughout the game.
“In stories like these, especially with a developing mystery, it’s crucial to have a driving force that propels the characters forward,” Hennig explained. “There’s an imminent threat and a shared objective that connects them all.”
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is scheduled for release in 2025, although a specific date has yet to be announced.
