Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has announced that the 167 foreign-trained graduates sponsored by his administration are set to enhance the state’s health and other vital sectors.
This information was disclosed by the governor’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs in a statement released in Damaturu.
In 2020, the state government funded 233 students, known as “Yobe scholars,” to pursue specialized courses in India.
Governor Buni, represented by the Speaker of the Yobe House of Assembly, Buba Mashio, made these remarks during a graduation ceremony for the students who completed their studies at five Indian universities.
The graduates have trained in various fields, including medical laboratory science, pharmacy, radiology, physiotherapy, optometry, computer science, and engineering.
From the 63 students supported at GD Goenka University, 58 have successfully graduated, while 5 continue their studies. Additionally, out of the 84 students sent to Integral University, 73 have graduated, leaving 11 still enrolled.
Furthermore, 22 students sponsored at Kalinga University have all completed their studies, and one student at PP Savani University has graduated, with 24 others continuing their education there.
Currently, there are 10 students at DIT University, 13 at VGU University, and 13 at Glocal University still engaged in their academic pursuits.
The governor’s aide noted that the number of optometrists trained and funded by the state over the last four years has exceeded the total trained since the state’s inception by more than 400 percent. Similarly, the count of pharmacists trained in the same period is also 400 percent higher than those educated since 1991.
Governor Buni congratulated the graduates on their excellent examination results and urged them to remain dedicated in their respective fields.
The Nigerian High Commission in India has praised Yobe’s scholarship program, highlighting its positive impact.
