Mongolia has reported a significant outbreak of measles, with 141 confirmed cases announced by the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) on March 31, 2025. The outbreak began with a group of Mongolian citizens returning from Vietnam on February 14, leading to a rapid increase in cases, particularly noted over the past two weeks. The majority of these cases have been documented in Ulaanbaatar city as well as Dundgovi and Umnugovi provinces.
Analysis of the confirmed cases indicates that individuals aged 10-14 are the most affected demographic.
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads easily through respiratory droplets and direct contact. While vaccination is effective in preventing the disease, common symptoms include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat, and inflammation of the eyes.
