Zoom Expands AI Companion Platform with Innovative Features
Zoom has unveiled a major expansion of its AI Companion platform, introducing advanced AI capabilities that enhance functionality across its suite of services, including Zoom Meetings, Phone, Team Chat, Docs, and Contact Center. The announcement, made on March 17, reveals over 45 innovations designed to boost productivity, streamline workflows, and strengthen user collaboration through enhanced AI features.
“AI Companion is evolving from a personal assistant into a truly agentic system, marking a significant advancement in how AI can amplify workplace productivity and collaboration,” said the Chief Product Officer at Zoom. “We’re focused on delivering real value through AI agents and skills that address genuine customer needs, enabling them to connect, collaborate, and accomplish more within our trusted platform.”
### Streamlined Workflows with Agentic Skills
The enhanced AI Companion now supports multi-step task execution, utilizing memory and reasoning to optimize agent and skill engagement. New features include advanced calendar management, clip generation, writing assistance, and the capability to handle intricate customer service workflows through Zoom Virtual Agent.
The AI Companion now supports task orchestration and decision-making, allowing it to continually learn and enhance its efficiency. Users will have access to custom AI agents through AI Studio, enabling organizations to create tailored virtual agents catering to specific business requirements. These features are currently in beta and are anticipated to roll out widely later this spring.
### Custom AI Companion Add-On Coming Soon
In April, Zoom plans to introduce a Custom AI Companion add-on for $12 per user per month, which will allow organizations to personalize the AI Companion with their meeting templates, industry-specific terminology, and third-party data integration. Benefits include personal AI coaching, custom meeting summaries, and the creation of avatars for Zoom Clips based on user-generated scripts.
This add-on will utilize Small Language Models (SLMs) trained on multilingual datasets, designed to enhance specific task efficiency and promote multi-agent collaboration.
### AI Companion Integration Across Zoom Services
AI Companion capabilities will be integrated into Zoom Tasks, set to launch in late March, allowing users to manage tasks derived from summaries, chats, and emails within Zoom Docs. AI-generated meeting agendas and live notes are scheduled for release in May, while voicemail summaries for Zoom Phone are already accessible. Additionally, a new mobile voice recorder will be available soon, featuring transcription and action item extraction functionalities.
Zoom Docs will see significant AI upgrades in June and July, including context-aware writing plans and automated table creation. Zoom Drive, a centralized content management system, is expected to debut in May.
### Enhancing Customer Experience with AI
The latest updates also extend AI capabilities to customer service. Zoom Contact Center will feature the Zoom Virtual Agent for voice and chat functionalities, as well as AI-intent routing — launching in March — with Advanced Quality Management anticipated in May.
Zoom is also introducing agentic skills for marketing, sales, and customer care through its Business Services. The upcoming Zoom Revenue Accelerator will offer a sales-centric agent with insights and prospecting tools.
New industry-specific solutions are in the pipeline, including Zoom Workplace for Frontline, debuting in April with tools tailored for on-shift workers. Zoom Workplace for Clinicians, expected in late March, will auto-generate clinical notes, while the Education sector will benefit from AI-generated lecture summaries in May and live transcript interactions later this year.
Additionally, Zoom is broadening its hardware certification program in April to incorporate document cameras for educational settings and patient-room cameras for healthcare.
Customers with paid Zoom accounts will continue to receive AI Companion at no additional cost, although certain advanced features, customizations, and special agents may require additional fees or separate pricing tiers.
