Zoe Saldaña expresses her desire for Star Trek 4 to be completed soon, reflecting on the missed opportunity to create the film earlier.
Zoe Saldaña’s Thoughts on Star Trek 4
In a recent interview, Saldaña shared her feelings about the film’s timeline, noting the aging of the cast and wishing they had been able to film “sooner rather than later.” She humorously added that the group has noticeably aged since the last installment.
“I wish we were able to do it sooner rather than later,” Saldaña remarked. “I feel like a lot of us have a full head of gray hair, so we need to do this quickly, if this is the same cast that’s going to reprise it again.”
Regarding the direction of the upcoming film, Saldaña suggested exploring the dynamics between Uhura and Spock, played by Zachary Quinto, as a primary focus for the storyline.
“It’s been a minute since I reconnected with Star Trek and all the characters’ journeys,” she commented. “But Uhura and Spock were always sort of drawn to each other; it just makes sense to see what the next step in their relationship and their professional collaboration might be.”
The fourth entry in the beloved sci-fi franchise has been in development for nearly five years, with various creative changes affecting the project, including shifts in the directing team. Recently, the latest update revealed that Steve Yockey, known for his work on the acclaimed drama series, has joined the film as the new writer.
In early 2022, it was confirmed that Star Trek 4 remained actively in development with the original cast expected to return, featuring prominent actors such as Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg. However, the project currently lacks a director following the departure of Matt Shakman due to scheduling issues with another major production.
