British tennis player Jodie Burrage’s journey at the ATX Open in Texas concluded on Wednesday as she fell to Ajla Tomljanovic in a hard-fought three-set match. Burrage, who previously defeated two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, ended with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 defeat.
Despite serving 11 aces, following the 14 aces against Kvitova, Burrage faced challenges in converting opportunities, managing to convert only one of her ten break points throughout the match.
The world No. 189 initially took the lead by winning the opening set, breaking Tomljanovic in the seventh game. However, a critical double fault allowed Tomljanovic to level the match, and she then surged ahead, winning six consecutive games to close out the contest in one hour and 47 minutes.
In other matches, Jessica Pegula triumphed over Nuria Parrizas Diaz with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-3, while Anna Blinkova defeated Tatjana Maria 6-2, 6-2.
Burrage’s recent performance is particularly noteworthy after she considered retirement last season due to a six-month injury layoff. She made a comeback in September and showcased her resilience by competing in the Australian Open earlier this year, where she achieved a victory over Leolia Jeanjean before being eliminated in the second round by Coco Gauff.
Fans can look forward to following the ATP and WTA Tours, along with the highly anticipated US Open in New York, in the upcoming sporting calendar.
