A 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped and later found in a semi-conscious state in New Delhi, as reported by local police on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Authorities indicated that a passerby discovered the woman in the Sarai Kale Khan area and notified the police around 3:30 am on Friday, October 11, 2024. A police team responded promptly and transported her to the AIIMS Trauma Center for treatment.
Investigating officers believe the victim was sexually assaulted at another location before being abandoned in Sarai Kale Khan. Originally from Odisha, the woman had relocated to Delhi a year ago, according to a senior police officer.
The officer revealed that she had been living with another woman in Katwaria Sarai but was asked to leave in August due to a dispute, subsequently spending several nights on the streets. Additionally, the victim, a graduate, was previously spotted in southeast Delhi’s Jamroodpur attempting to trespass a residence; however, no complaints were lodged in that instance. She also reportedly spent a night inside an ATM booth in Kishangarh.
Currently, she is inconsistent in her statements and is not cooperating with investigators. Authorities have informed her parents and she remains under observation at the hospital. Police are actively working to identify the suspected assailant using CCTV footage and technical surveillance methods.
