GENEVA, Switzerland – The grassroots initiative spearheaded by a World Health Organization (WHO) staff member has evolved into a pivotal global movement championing public health. Following the success of the 1 Dollar 1 World campaign, WHO is intensifying its efforts to inspire worldwide solidarity for health initiatives.
The WHO is rallying support for the 1 Dollar 1 World movement, urging regions, countries, and individuals to collaborate in this critical effort. Partnering with the WHO Foundation, WHO aims to elevate awareness of its essential work and engage communities across the globe.
This initiative marks a new frontier for WHO, leveraging crowdfunding to advance its mission. By activating its network of 150 country offices and harnessing the reach of the WHO Foundation, WHO seeks to strengthen community participation and diversify its funding sources amid ongoing financial needs.
Since its launch in early 2025, nearly 5,000 participants from over 140 countries have contributed to the campaign via the WHO Foundation, which aims to unite funders with impactful health initiatives. This surge in engagement reflects a widespread commitment to global health, highlighting that health is a fundamental right for all.
“The strength of the 1 Dollar 1 World movement stems from the collective efforts of individuals. It is a testament to our ability to unite in times of crisis,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “WHO proudly supports this initiative, which embodies our core values of solidarity, action, innovation, and hope.”
A Call to Action
Recent global health challenges—ranging from pandemics to humanitarian crises—underscore the urgent need for collective safety. The 1 Dollar 1 World movement provides an opportunity for individuals worldwide to transform concern into actionable support for health, transcending borders.
“This campaign began with one individual, but it resonates with us all,” remarked the initiator of the original effort. “It demonstrates the potential for individual action to spark significant change, proving that together we possess greater strength.”
