Fans of Slipknot are concerned about Sid Wilson, the band’s DJ, after he shared images and videos showcasing severe burn injuries on his face. Known for his role as #0 in the heavy metal group and his relationship with Kelly Osbourne, the 47-year-old turntablist has opened up about the incident on social media.
How Did Sid Wilson Sustain His Facial Burns?
Wilson suffered burns on his face from a bonfire explosion that occurred while he attempted to ignite a wood debris pile with gasoline. He described the injuries as having “basically melted” the skin from his nose down.
In a recent interview, Wilson revealed that the accident took place at his farm in Iowa, where he resides with Osbourne and their son Sidney. After allowing a bonfire to burn down for several days, he checked on the remaining debris and made the regrettable decision to add gasoline. “There was a certain amount of debris around the side still left,” he recounted, highlighting his lapse in judgment.
Despite knowing better, Wilson admitted that impatience led him to crouch down too close to the pile to ignite it. He had failed to realize that vapors from the leftover gasoline were still in the air, resulting in an unexpected explosion. “It was really humid out so there was still a lot of vapors lingering around in there, and it just… woof. Exploded,” he explained.
After the explosion, Wilson managed to return home, where Osbourne quickly helped him get to a hospital in Des Moines. Medical staff treated his burns and bandaged his arms, leading to a positive recovery in just a few days. While he isn’t dwelling on the accident, he admits the most challenging aspect is the embarrassment he feels for his mistake.
