ECNETNews, New York, NY, Mon. Dec. 30, 2024: Cricket West Indies has officially announced its squad for the highly anticipated tour of Pakistan. The West Indies men’s team will engage in two Test matches from January 17 to January 29, 2025, at the Multan Cricket Stadium. This tour represents a significant milestone, marking the West Indies’ first Test series in Pakistan in 18 years, and it will conclude the current ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Historic Return to Pakistan
This series aims to reignite the long-standing rivalry between the two cricketing nations. It’s noteworthy that this will be the West Indies’ first Test match in Pakistan since 2007. The squad, captained by Kraigg Brathwaite, features a blend of experienced players and emerging talent.
Promising left-handed batter Amir Jangoo, who recently shone with a match-winning century on his ODI debut against Bangladesh, receives his first Test call-up. Additionally, spinner Gudakesh Motie makes his return to the squad after missing the recent drawn series with Bangladesh.
Coach’s Vision
Head Coach Andre Coley shared his excitement about the team’s potential, focusing on growth and performance. “For the Test series against Pakistan in January 2025, our aim is to build on our strengths and turn our experiences from 2024 into positive outcomes,” said Coley.
Coley emphasized the significance of Jangoo and Motie’s inclusion: “Motie’s return enhances our spin attack, and Jangoo’s selection is a testament to his consistent performance across formats in regional cricket, showcasing his strong capabilities against spin bowling.”
Squad Adjustments
Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph will be unavailable due to prior commitments, while Shamar Joseph is still on the path to recovery from injury. The team is scheduled to depart the Caribbean on January 2, arriving in Islamabad on January 6.
