Fashion and beauty entrepreneur Toyin Lawani has shared her personal insights regarding the use of epidural anesthesia, a common pain relief method for pregnant women during childbirth. In a recently released video, Lawani, a mother of three, expressed her concerns about the significant impact of the epidural on her health since her last delivery.
Lawani revealed that many doctors fail to thoroughly inform expectant mothers about the potential long-term side effects of epidurals. Since her own experience, she has been grappling with severe back pain and spinal degeneration, which she attributes to the anesthetic injection received during the births of her last two children.
She stated, “When you hear ‘epidural,’ run. Doctors mention the short-term side effects, but the long-term effects on your body are rarely discussed. I have several friends experiencing similar issues.”
At just 42 years old, Lawani is facing grim health challenges, including degenerating spine conditions and reliance on implants for support. She recounted, “The pain persists. My back is excruciating, and my spine continues to deteriorate.”
Lawani reflected on her decision-making during childbirth, stating, “I had two epidurals and one natural birth. I had no other option but to opt for an epidural during my last surgery.” She emphasized that receiving the epidural did not end her suffering, as her back issues have worsened since.
Her alarming revelations highlight the need for greater awareness among mothers regarding the possible repercussions of epidural anesthesia.
