Muslim community leaders in Vijayapura have issued a warning to Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, demanding an end to what they describe as his ‘anti-Muslim’ rhetoric.
Mr. Yatnal has announced plans for a protest rally in Vijayapura on October 16, 2024, followed by a Waqf Hatao, Desh Bachao rally on November 6.
Advocate S.S. Quadri stated that a Compact Disc containing evidence of the MLA’s alleged inflammatory remarks would be made public if he did not cease his statements against the Muslim community. The advocate accused the MLA of spreading falsehoods and inciting division within society. “If he continues down this path, he will face public scrutiny,” Mr. Quadri declared.
He emphasized that failure to retract his anti-Waqf rally announcement would result in the release of the CD on November 6.
Abdul Razak Horti, a former city municipal corporation member, clarified that their intention was not intimidation but rather to remind Mr. Yatnal of the importance of careful speech and action.
He urged journalists to seek clarification from Mr. Yatnal regarding his recent legal maneuvers to block certain broadcasts, while also refraining from commenting on the similar restraining order issued by religious leader Maulana Syed Tanveer Peera Hashmi. “Those questions should be directed at the religious leader,” Mr. Horti added.
