PHILADELPHIA — In a shocking incident early Saturday morning, a vehicle evading authorities struck three nurses outside a Philadelphia hospital after delivering a gunshot victim for treatment. One nurse is reported in critical condition following the accident.
The silver Jeep Cherokee reportedly sped away from Penn Presbyterian Hospital around 4:30 a.m., colliding with the nurses who were providing care to the victim.
A 36-year-old nurse suffered critical injuries, including facial trauma and internal bleeding. Another nurse, age 37, sustained head injuries, while a 51-year-old nurse suffered injuries to his head and back, but both are currently in stable condition.
The gunshot victim, a 28-year-old male, arrived at the hospital with multiple wounds and may have experienced additional injuries during the hit-and-run incident.
Officials from the hospital described the situation as “devastating,” highlighting that the medical team continued to work diligently to save the gunshot victim while also attending to their injured colleagues.
Authorities are actively investigating the hit-and-run, as well as the shooting, and are offering support to the victims and their families during this difficult time.
City Council member Jamie Gauthier expressed outrage at the incident, emphasizing the bravery of hospital staff who confront trauma on a daily basis. “It is unfathomable that someone would drive into those dedicated to healing,” he stated.
