ECNETNews, March 18, 2025: The United States has refuted claims of a draft travel ban list amid rising concerns from several Caribbean Community (CARICOM) nations regarding potential travel restrictions.
A spokesperson for the US Department of State clarified that “There is no list. What has been speculated in recent days is unfounded and not under consideration.” The spokesperson added that the administration is currently reviewing visa policies and national security as part of an executive order initiated by former President Trump.
Reports had suggested that six Caribbean countries—St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Cuba, and Haiti—were included in a potential list facing travel restrictions. The proposal allegedly categorized these nations into three risk levels: a “red” list preventing entry, an “orange” list instigating restrictions, and a “yellow” list allowing 60 days for compliance.
In light of these claims, Antigua and Barbuda has officially sought clarification from the US government through a diplomatic note, expressing significant concern and indicating that they had received no prior notification regarding such a list. Other CARICOM nations, including St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, and St. Lucia, are also pursuing formal clarification.
These nations have underscored their dedication to enhancing their Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs, collaborating closely with the US to deter misuse by criminal elements. Antigua and Barbuda reiterated that all applicants are subjected to stringent screenings, including INTERPOL vetting, to maintain the program’s integrity.
