US authorities have formally charged three Iranian nationals in connection with the hacking of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign this year.
Prosecutors allege that Masoud Jalili, Seyyed Ali Aghamiri, and Yasar Balaghi, linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, executed a “hack and leak” campaign aimed at disrupting an unnamed presidential campaign.
Recent reports from US officials indicated that these Iranian hackers attempted to disseminate stolen materials from the Trump campaign to associates of Joe Biden’s re-election efforts.
The individuals face a total of 18 charges, which include wire fraud, identity theft, providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, and various hacking-related offenses.
