The Spirit of Advocacy in The First Berserker: Khazan serves as a crucial ally during intense Guardian battles, helping players overcome challenging encounters. This feature may easily go unnoticed if players are not exploring the game’s menus, and its effectiveness can diminish if not properly upgraded.
Unlocking the Spirit of Advocacy
The Spirit of Advocacy becomes available automatically after defeating the third main boss, the Revenant of Adversity, approximately four to five hours into the game. Players struggling with earlier fights should ensure they are utilizing Khazan’s top weapons and familiarize themselves with the distinct combat mechanics of Khazan, which diverge from the Dark Souls series.
After this pivotal battle, a bright white light will appear near boss arenas and where players respawn if they fall during fights against Guardians. Interacting with this light summons the Spirit of Advocacy, which acts similarly to a non-player character (NPC) summon in other action RPGs, fighting alongside the player.
Summoning the Spirit requires Lacrima of Circulation, obtained by defeating additional Revenants of Adversity. These summons can be found at specific locations on the ground, marked by red spots for players to activate. However, it’s important to note that the Spirit of Advocacy starts off less effective until it is upgraded.
Upgrading the Spirit of Advocacy
Players have several options to enhance the Spirit of Advocacy. The most straightforward method is to spend Lacrima of Circulation during interactions with Daphrona in the Crevice, the home base. While this method is efficient, players may find themselves needing to farm for more Lacrima to keep summoning the Spirit.
Additionally, certain items equipped by Khazan can also boost the Spirit’s power. The most significant upgrade comes from Veronika the Advocate, an equippable phantom that can be summoned upon discovering her ghost gems in the Forgotten Temple. Although there are other phantoms available, Veronika uniquely increases the Spirit of Advocacy’s damage—initially by four percent and potentially up to eighteen percent as players progress.
